The Brief:

Jerome Vila, a photographer, required an immediate online presence to establish credibility and showcase his work quickly.

The initial mandate was to execute a rapid site build-out under a tight deadline, prioritizing basic functionality over strategic architecture.

The core constraint and challenge emerged after one year: The foundational site was not optimized to function as a sales engine. As his career progressed, the need shifted from simple presence to effective monetization. The site had to be redesigned to balance his current, active project, his extensive past works, and, most critically, revamp the integrated shop to be visually appealing and drive direct sales.

My Role

My role was initially that of rapid build and implementation.

After the first year, my role evolved into the Strategic Redesign with a focus on monetization.

I led the complete site redesign, prioritizing the shop revamp to ensure optimal user experience and visual appeal.

Crucially, I implemented using AI to generate images to visually merchandise his flat artworks, showing them framed in realistic home environments to bridge the gap between digital viewing and physical purchase. I currently manage the ongoing SEO optimization as the site settles into its new structure.

Project Outcomes and results

As the site relaunched within the last three months, usage data is still maturing, but the strategic outcomes of the redesign are clear:

  • Monetization Focus: The redesigned, highly visible shop and streamlined purchase path immediately repositioned the site from a portfolio to an active sales channel.

  • Visual Merchandising Innovation: The strategic use of AI for product visualization eliminated the client's high cost and time spent on professional staging, creating instant, compelling context for every piece of artwork and dramatically enhancing the sales potential of the shop.

  • Key Learning: This project demonstrates the value of strategic pause and redesign. A quick initial build is necessary, but true revenue growth requires revisiting that foundation to align the site structure and technology (like AI visualization) directly with the artist's commercial goals.
